Danger Zone: Family Weekend
You're hosting the family this weekend: a backyard picnic, then leftover chili for lunch the next day. Before each time-lapse, plan where the food goes hour by hour, how leftovers cool, and how hot to reheat them, then launch and watch. Your mission: nobody gets sick.
Two partners, one iPad. Partner A sets the plan. Partner B checks it against the rules and explains the prediction. Switch roles every level.
Key words
- Bacteria
- Tiny living things, too small to see. Some kinds make people sick.
- Danger zone
- 40°F to 140°F, the temperatures where bacteria grow fast.
- Perishable
- Food that spoils quickly unless it's kept cold, like chicken salad.
- Per gram
- In each gram of food (a gram is about the weight of a paper clip).
- Illness line
- In this game, 2,500 bacteria per gram (an illustrative number), enough to make someone sick.
The food-safety rules come from USDA and CDC guidance. The bacteria counts and growth speeds in this game are illustrative: made-up numbers that show the pattern.

Stars: ★★★ for passing on your first launch, ★★ on your second, ★ after that. Calculate before you launch! Progress resets if the page reloads.
Predict before you launch
What will the chicken salad's bacteria count do?
Once you launch, the plan is locked and the time-lapse runs.
